Ardmore PA Real Estate

Located in Lower Merion Township, Ardmore is regarded as one of the best places to live, work and play on the main line. Known for its historic downtown area, eclectic upscale boutiques, and charming architecture, Ardmore is continually recognized as a much sought-after location on the main line.

In 1811, a wealthy resident by the name of Dr. James Anderson named the town "Athensville". Twenty years later, The Pennsylvania Railroad suggested a new name with the addition of Ardmore station in the center of town. The name Ardmore has its roots in Gaelic and reflected the landscape of the town, signifying high grounds or hills. Moreover, many residents of the town were immigrants from Ireland, thus making the town name even more applicable.

Accessibility to Philadelphia via the railroad and Lancaster Pike made Ardmore a prominent location for businessmen looking for quiet, rural life. Soon, several merchants set up their own businesses in the heart of Ardmore including Autocar Company, Chadwick Funeral Home, McConaghy Funeral Home and A. Talone, Inc. These business and others helped create Ardmore's business district and supported the Lower Merion economy for decades.

Part of Ardmore's charm is its unique shopping district; it is home to Suburban Square, the second oldest shopping mall in America. This area offers a multitude of unique stores including boutique clothing, antique shops, and various diners and eateries. Included in this shopping center is a town favorite, the Farmer's Market. This market specializes in every food imaginable, and is a Mecca for food lovers; cuisine offered includes sushi, Thai, Italian, American, and Polish, in addition to the fresh meats, seafood, produce, cheeses, wine, coffee and teas, as well as a range of dessert items and fresh flowers.

Once farmland, Ardmore's landscape is still lush, verdant and inviting. The town has persevered multiple parks and historic sites, offering a haven of relaxation amidst the bustle of everyday life. The architecture in the area is reminiscent of chic living; homes range from Tudor, Victorian and Colonial estates to contemporary-style homes and exclusive condos and townhouses.
